The Rise Of The State

Governments are encroaching into more and more areas of the world economy. This is not just through political drama (as we have seen in the Euro area), nor even through the conventional mechanisms of foreign exchange intervention. Regulation (and regulatory uncertainty), sovereign wealth funds, bond market manipulation and default risks all play a role in financial markets, and all are intensely political in their nature.

Recent developments in Europe may have reduced the likelihood of severe downside policy scenarios while stable, albeit uninspiring, US economic data have lowered the odds of recession. A decline in equity implied volatility reflects that progress. However the prospects for abovetrend growth in both regions are bleak and policy risk is persistent with key events such as the US fiscal committee outcome on the horizon. Extremely high equity option skew highlights those risks.

Why we know this blog pisses you off and why that is the purpose

Some of the readers of this blog have been wondering "what the fuck are you writing? Are you crazy robots? Do you really want to convey the message that you have to be an obsessed introvert in order to 'succeed'? Have you ever really thought about the narrow-mindedness about your definition of 'success'"?

In this post, we are going to address these concerns and reveal what, exactly, is the rationale behind this blog and why we sincerely hope - at least somewhat - it has indeed provoked you.

"Lady Gaga? Of course I know who that is? Rex W. Tillerson? Haven't got the faintest clue!" - What this line says about you and why it constitutes a problem

Leading a healthy life where you eat properly and work out continuously is, if you think about it, at least in the western world, a quite simple task. By just browsing around the internet, you can learn everything you could ever want to know about nutrition, various exercise techniques as well as loads of other things. If you go to a regular grocery store, you are going to find vegetables, fruit and other items that are deemed healthy; likewise, there are plenty of gyms, more or less everyone having personal trainers that can tailor an exercise program specifically for you.

KTHFS Events November

Today, we are not going to announce why you need to completely rework the way you lead your life if you are to find success - earlier blog posts have done so more than enough.

However, we do would like to announce the many events we will be hosting during the next few weeks.

First, if you are preparing your application to either a Full-time position, internship or Spring Week, do take advantage of next week's Application Night where you will be able to get hands-on advice from students who have been in your position before - and made it through the system.

Why you need a career plan even before starting university

If you're like most students, one of the reasons for your starting studying at KTH was that you thought that KTH would provide you with a good education and, by implication, a solid chance of landing a good job at the day of graduation. And, if you are indeed like most students, you have been studying fairly hard, getting good grades and pursued extra-curricular activities.

What you should be doing at the moment - Spring Weeks / Internships / Full-time Offers ---> Application Night

The so-called "Recruitment Season" is at its peak right now - if you haven't started applying to the various programs that exist, you need to act. NOW. Whether you are a 5th, 4th, or 3rd (or even 2nd or 1st) year student, more or less all major firms have programs tailored to meet your particular situation - it is up to you to use those opportunities.

Obviously, it goes without saying what your objective is if you are in your final year of study (landing a job, stupid!) – it is, however, not clear what you can do if you are a, say, 2nd year student.
